Freshers 2017 – Introductory Events
Every year, we run an exciting series of events for new and returning students to get involved with UBES for the first time. Whilst you are encouraged to get involved at any stage of the year, there’s no better time that to jump in at the start!

Welcome Fair
Friday 22nd September — 11am-5pm — Downs
Intro Talks - no need to book
Monday 25th September, 8.15pm — Badock Hall (Junior Common Room)
Tuesday 26th September, 7pm — Beacon House (Seminar Room)
Please note the updated time of Monday’s talk at Badock Hall – now at 8.15pm.
These talks are open to all students: new, returning, undergrad, postgrad, mature, etc, etc. You are also welcome to come to either of them — the Stoke Bishop talk is particularly convenient for many freshers, but everyone is welcome.
Our intro talks are a great opportunity to get an overview of everything that’s going on this year, from our intro events and weekend trips, to Scotland, socials, and summer expeditions. You’ll be able to ask any questions you might have, and afterwards we’ll head to the nearest pub to chat over a pint about all things UBES (likely Badock Bar or the Berkeley, respectively).
Intro to Climbing - booking essential
Saturday 30th September & Sunday 1st October — Morning and afternoon sessions — Avon Gorge (Meet at either Bristol SU, or Downs Water Tower)
Want to try out rock climbing outdoors? Come along to one of our Intro to Climbing sessions in the world famous Avon Gorge! Whether you’re completely new to climbing or an experienced mountaineer we would love to see you at one of our sessions. Have a go at rock climbing, slacklining or some UBES games with free tea/coffee provided! Facebook Event
Local Taster Walk - booking preferred
Sunday 24th September — 12.45pm — Clifton Suspension Bridge (Clifton-side)
Join us for an introductory local walk around Bristol, and escape the hustle and bustle of Freshers Week! No need for any fancy equipment, just turn up with a pair of sensible shoes and a sense of adventure. Facebook Event
Capture the Flag Social – no need to book
Wednesday 27th September – 2pm – Downs Water Tower
We’ll be walking up from Info Point if you want to join us then – 1pm, outside Careers Service, Tyndall Avenue.

Freshers Week Pub!
Every Wednesday night in term time is UBES pub night, and freshers week is no exception! If you’re feeling especially keen, pop along to the Highbury Vaults on St. Michael’s Hill from around 9.30pm.
The committee will be wearing their UBES t-shirts! Make sure you join our Facebook Forum, and keep an eye out for updates from our Social Secs.
