UBES has an active social calendar throughout the year, with events ranging from relaxed weekly meet-ups to some of the Society’s larger annual traditions.
Socials are organised by the Social Secretaries and are open to members across the Society. We aim to provide a varied programme of events, including both drinking and alcohol-free activities.
Weekly Pub Social
Members can usually be found at the Highbury Vaults on Wednesday evenings from around 8pm.
The weekly pub is an informal opportunity to meet other members, catch up after trips and get to know people outside organised activities. New and existing members are very welcome to come along.
Annual Socials and Traditions
A number of larger events take place throughout the academic year and have become established UBES traditions.
These may include:
- Black Tie Christmas House Party – traditionally held around the time of the Mendips Challenge.
- Christmas Dinner
- Pancake Party
- Pub Quiz
- UBES Ceilidh
- Scavenger Hunt – teams compete around Bristol and beyond by completing a series of challenges.
- Post-exams BBQ
The exact programme varies from year to year depending on the committee, venues and the academic calendar.
Themed Socials
Throughout the year, UBES also organises themed events, fancy dress socials and occasional bar crawls.
Previous themes have included ideas such as When I Grow Up and Board Games, with new themes introduced each year by the Social Secretaries.
Alcohol-Free Events
Not every UBES social revolves around drinking. We aim to provide regular opportunities for members to socialise in settings where alcohol is not the focus, alongside our more traditional pub and evening events.
This may include activities such as meals, games, outdoor events and other informal gatherings during the year.
Getting Involved
Upcoming socials are advertised through UBES member communications and the Society calendar. Details normally include the time, location, any ticketing requirements and whether places are limited.
If you have an idea for a future social, or would like more information about an event, contact the Social Secretaries.
